Facts
• All festivals can be divided into religious and national festivals.
• Religious festivals include Basant Panchami, Diwali, Eid-ul-Fitr, Mahavir Jayanti, Budh
Purnima, Holi, Raksha Bandhan, Pongal, Dussehra, Lohri, Onam, Gurupurab,
Christmas etc.
• Some religious festivals are celebrated in some specific states or regions; for example,
Durga Puja in West Bengal, Pongal in Tamil Nadu, Onam in Kerala and Lohri in
Punjab etc.
• The important national festivals include Independence Day, Republic Day and
Gandhi Jayanti.
