On these days, the gurudwaras are
decorated. People visit them and sing
rhymes from their holy book, Guru
Granth Sahib . Food is also distributed on
this day. People dine in the community
kitchen, called Langar .
Christmas
Christmas is celebrated on 25 December
each year to mark the birthday of Jesus
Christ . Churches are decorated with
flowers and lighting. People visit them
and offer special prayers. They also make
a Christmas Tree at home. Many people
dress as Santa Claus to give gifts to
children.

National Festivals
Independence Day
India became free from the British on 15
August, 1947. We celebrate this day as
Independence Day. It is celebrated all over
India including schools, villages, towns
and cities. The main function of the
country is held at the Red Fort in Delhi.
The Prime Minister of India hoists the
