              Festivals and I




              Festival is fun time. It is also time to think :

              • You should not enjoy alone. You should enjoy in the company of friends and relatives.
              • You should share your things with friends.

              • If you have a poor friend, you should help him enjoy with you.
              When you help others, the joy of celebration becomes manifold.




            In India, a large number of festivals are celebrated. We can divide them into
            two groups : religious festivals and national festivals.


                Religious Festivals


               Basant Panchami

            Also called Saraswati Puja                , Basant
            Panchami is celebrated to mark the

            arrival of the spring season. People,
            especially            students,            worship

            Saraswati, Goddess of Learning. In
            many places, people wear yellow

            clothes and fly kites.


               Diwali

            Also called the festival of lights              , Diwali is an important festival of the
            Hindus. It falls in the month of October or November. It is believed that

            Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya after a fourteen-year-long exile. People
            clean, paint and decorate their houses. In the evening, they light their
