Mizoram
Aizawl is the capital of this state. The chief tribe is Mizo.
They grow ginger, rice, maize, mustard, potato and sesame.

People wear colourful shawls and traditional dresses.
Bamboo dance is very popular.

shikara : a type of boat used in lakes in Kashmir.
phiran : a type of long coat worn by Kashmiri people.

kangri : a type of basket for keeping burning embers for warmth.
kahwa : a type of tea prepared in Jammu and Kashmir.
tribal : a group of people living in hills or remote areas and having peculiar customs,
language, dress and religion.
toy-train : it is an actual train connecting Darjeeling with Jalpaiguri in West Bengal.
Seven Sisters : the seven states in North-east India comprising Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya,
Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Assam.
jhoom : a traditional farming practice in north-eastern India.

• The states in the northern mountains include Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand,
northern West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram.
• The seven states located in the north-east are called Seven Sisters.

• All these hilly states are quite scenic and are famous for their charming hill stations.
• The chief occupations of people include farming and animal husbandry. Crafts are also practised.
• People in these states wear their traditional dresses, and speak a variety of languages and dialects.
