Hindi and Maithili. Many tribes live here, such as Santhals and
Mundas . The important festivals celebrated here include Holi,
Diwali, Dussehra and Eid.

With a fertile land and abundant water resources, the main occupation in West Bengal
is agriculture. The important crops grown here include rice
and jute. Kolkata , its capital, is called the city of joy . Other
important cities include Burdwan, Midnapore and 24
Parganas. There are many famous monuments here, such as
the Victoria Memorial. The chief language spoken here is
Bengali, though Hindi and English are widely understood. The
popular sweet dishes of West Bengal are sandes and Bengali
rasgollah . Durga Puja, the most important festival in West
Durga Puja
Bengal, is celebrated over 10 days.
Assam
Assam, a part of the Seven Sisters, lies in the Brahmaputra
basin. Dispur is its capital. The chief crops grown in this state
are rice and jute. Petroleum is also mined here. The important
languages spoken here are Assami and Bengali. The important
festival is Bihu. The Bihu dance is popular here. The hilltop
Kamakhya Temple is visited by a large number of people.
Assam is known for its wildlife and tea plantations.

Tripura
Tripura is one of the states of the Seven Sisters. It is
surrounded by Bangladesh on three sides. Its capital is
Agartala where the Ujjayanta Palace is known for its beauty.
People of this state are farmers or craftsmen. The chief crops
are rice, tea and jute. Bamboo furniture and handloom are
common cottage industries here. People speak Bengali and
celebrate Durga Puja with fanfare.
