Models and Features

Models and I

Your teacher often tells you to make models from clay, paper or
cardboard. They are the mini form of the actual things, like hut,
building, machine, park and so on. The earth is very large, so we

cannot study it the whole of it together. For its correct study, we
use different models.

Globe

The earth is very large and round, so we can see only a
small part of it at one time. To study the whole earth, we

make its model. This model is called globe .

A globe is round like the earth. It is set on a stand. As it
is round, we can see only one-half of it at one time. We

have to rotate it to see the other side.

A globe is useful to study the earth as a whole. It,
globe
however, cannot be used to study a small part of the

earth, like a city or town. It is not easy to carry it. Also, it cannot be made
part of a book. So, a map is used as it is easier to use.

Map

A map is like a drawing on a flat surface, like a paper, poster, cloth or wall.
As per the need, it can show the whole or a part of the earth. It is easy to

carry a paper or cloth map as it can be folded. It can be made small or large.
It can also be included in a book.
