The Earth and I
Look at the sky at night. You can see many shining heavenly bodies.
All these are very big. The Earth is one of them. We are on the Earth,
so we are alive. We can live because favourable conditions exist on
the Earth. It is not possible to live on any other heavenly body. So, it is
our duty to know more about the Earth and look after it.
The Earth exists in the solar system . The Sun is at the centre of the solar
system. It is a star. It is very big. It looks small because it is far away from
us. It is the source of heat and light in the solar system.
A heavenly body that revolves round a star is called a planet . The Earth and
seven other planets revolve round the Sun.
