                                                         Official Records
One important source of knowing history is the official records of the British administration. The British
believed that every policy, direction and plan of the British should be written clearly. It included
meticulously recording all administrative reports, letters and documents. All officers had their record
rooms. Specialised institutions like museums, archives, libraries were opened at local, provincial and
other levels to keep records. With the spread of the art of printing, a large number of copies of these
records were available in all government departments. We can also study notes and reports that district
officials were prepared or the instructions and directives that were sent by officials at the top to
                 provincial administrations.
                                                                                           Where, When and How
                                                                                                                 9
