                                                       Sardar Sarovar Dam
The Sardar Sarovar Dam is a partially completed dam on the Narmada
River near Navagam, Gujarat in India. Its final configuration is the second
largest concrete gravity dam (by volume) after Grand Coulee Dam in the
USA and has the World’s third largest spillway discharging capacity.
The priority of the Sardar Sarovar is irrigation and drinking water supply.
Power generation is a relatively minor part of the agenda. The three
states that the Narmada passes through–Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra
and Gujarat were to share in the power generated by the project in the
                 ratio of 57 : 27 : 16.
