9 Means of
Communication
Communication and I
Man’s existence cannot be imagined without communication. When a person is
not communicating with others, he is communicating with himself. Thinking is one
way of communicating with self. It is through different means of communication
that a person expresses his needs, opinions, wishes, demands, obligations and
attachment. Good communication skills are the first step to success in life.
The means of communication become very important when you are not near the
person you want to communicate with. Communication is an essential need. The scope
of communication has expanded in the modern times.
In the past, sending messages took a lot of time as people had
to walk or ride horses. You have heard that the marathon races
are held the world over. They are held in commemoration of
the fabled run of a Greek soldier who ran 42 kilometres to give Facebook WhatsApp
the message of victory in the battle to his king. It is also
believed that pigeons were used for sending messages in the
past. Now we have at our disposal several means which help
us send messages very quickly. Science and technology have
Instagram Twitter
played a vital role in this.
The means of communication can be divided into two broad types : means of private
communication and means of mass communication . The former are used in the private
capacity, when you want to communicate with some friend or family member; and the
latter are used when you want to convey your message to a large number of people.
Letter and telephone are important means of private communication; while
newspaper, radio, television etc., are means of mass communication. However, several
means of private communication can be used as means of mass communication; for
example, a mobile phone can be used to send messages to a large number of people at
the same time; similarly, the internet can be used to send messages to an individual
(like through email, FaceBook etc.).
