In addition, there are 2 short seasons which are : autumn season and spring season .
Thus, there are a total of 5 seasons in our country.
Summer Season
The summer is the hot season with a high temperature. It
starts from the middle of March and lasts until the month
of June. In North India, hot and dry winds, called Loo ,
blow. People wear cotton clothes. They like to have cold
foods, like ice cream and fruit juice.
As high places remain cool even during this season, a lot of
people visit hill stations. At this time, South India has a
moderate climate as it is near the sea, but it remains
humid. It causes discomfort.
Rainy Season
The rainy season is also called the monsoon season . It sets
in from the month of June and lasts until the month of
September. It starts in South India in June. The monsoon
winds reach North India a month later, so the rainy season
starts there from the month of July.
The monsoon winds rise from the sea. They bring rain to
the whole of India. It rains
more in North-east India than
North-west India. Meghalaya
receives a heavy rainfall during
this season while Rajasthan receives a little of it.
The monsoon is very advantageous for the Indian farmers.
They wait for this season to grow their crops. People use
umbrellas and raincoats during the season. Some areas
experience floods during this season.
Winter Season
The winter season sets in the month of November and lasts
until the middle of February. During it, nights are longer
than days. The temperature is low. People wear woollen
clothes and like to have hot foods and drinks.
It snows in some hilly stations. It is extremely cold in the
Himalayas, while it is cool in South India.
