Climate and I
The climate determines many aspects of our
life. We build our houses as per the climate,
we wear clothes as per the climate, we cook
food as per the climate, and our working
time is also determined as per the climate.
So, the climate determines our lifestyle and
plays a very important role in our life.
You can see that it is cold or cool in the morning and hot or warm at noon; it becomes
cold or cool in the evening again. Sometimes, it rains. This variation in the atmospheric
conditions is called weather . It keeps changing from hour to hour and day to day.
The average weather conditions over a long period of time are called climate . Thus, if a
place remains cold for most part of the year, it is said to have a cold climate. If it
remains hot, it is said to have a hot climate.
The climate of a place is influenced by several factors. The places which are near the
Equator are hot and those away from it are cold. The places which are near the sea are
moderate (neither very cold nor very hot). Also, the places at low altitude are hot (like
plains) and those at high altitude are cold (like mountains). Likewise, rain also has its
effect on the climate.
India is a large country with all kinds of land features. It has high mountains and
plains in the north; it has deserts in the north-west and South India is near the sea. Due
to these factors, India has a variety of climates. Since monsoon plays an important role
in our country, it is said to have a monsoon type of climate .
