            Many animals are kept for company and recreation, such as horse, dog, cat, parrot etc.
            These animals are called pet animals         .





            Rabi crops       :  the crops grown in winter and reaped in spring.

            Kharif crops  :  the crops grown in rainy season and reaped in winter.
            staple diet      :  the main food eaten by the people of an area.
            cash crop        :  a crop grown for sale in the market rather than consumption.
            beverage crop : a crop used for making drinks, such as coffee, tea etc.
            livestock        :  the animals used for food or transport.

            • About 52 percent of working Indians are engaged in agriculture and livestock directly.
            • Two main crop seasons observed in India are Rabi and Kharif.
            • Important food crops are cereals, pulses, millets, beverages, fruits and vegetables.

            • Important non-food crops are rubber, sugarcane, cotton, jute etc.
            • Rice and wheat are staple diets for a large number of people in our country.
            • Some crops can also be grouped as spices, plantation crops and horticulture crops.

            • Cash crops are grown for sale in the market, and not for domestic consumption.
            • Livestock is used for food, transportation and recreation.
