The Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation Act) 1986
The Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation Act) 1986, makes it illegal to employ children under 14 in
any dangerous job, for example, in factories. The Act prohibits the employment of children in any
workshop where processes such as beedi making, carpet weaving, cloth printing, dyeing and weaving,
manufacture of matches, explosive and fire works or manufacture of slate pencils are carried out. In
2006, this law was amended and employing children under 14 for any kind of work, including domestic
